VA Claims Backlog Fuels Protest Fire
Veterans are calling for President Obama to fire VA the Secretary.
According to The Washington Post, 26,000 veterans signed a petition this week prepared by Concerned Veterans for America, protesting the claims backlog filed with the VA. The petition, sent to President Obama, calls for the firing of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki — as there are still nearly 500,000+ claims yet unprocessed.
Supposedly, with reorganization, new training and new technology within the VA, the backlog will over by the end of 2015. Rep. Jeff Miller (R-Fla.), chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, called the decrease is “a welcomed statistic,” but is concerned about the systemic issues within the VA that created the backlog in the first place.
