The One Person Who Really Got it Right, Steve Jobs Résumé
Isn’t it a tremendous compliment that I found out about one of my heroes heart-breaking death via my iPad push notification?
It felt more appropriate to do it today. I felt I would be behaving like a hit-whore had I posted yesterday, along with the rest of the world.
It’s strange to me how I can feel so sad about a person I never met. I am not even sure I’d like the guy. I have heard an read the stories about his antics during the early years of Apple. “Antics” might not be the appropriate words, but his visionary status is unquestionable. Him and Woz took on Big Blue and won!
I am writing this on a keyboard he designed. I am watching the letters appear on a monitor he designed. I will be posting this via a laptop he designed.
I look around my house and it’s a gallery of Apple history, Steve’s résumé. I have an Airport Express in a red tool chest. I have a blueberry iMac on a shelf in my garage. One of my son’s has the Pixar-looking iMac with the bubble-shaped base. That one s actually my favorite. I wish I had bought the widescreen version.
I vividly recall having arguments with ass-headed IT guys who kept insisting Apple was the Devil. They’d say things like “who does Steve Jobs think he is? Apple computers are no good because you can’t modify them. They don’t play nice with the PCs and they are expensive.” My response would usually sound something like, “Not everybody can drive a BMW you douchebag.”
Here are some other of my favorite rebuttles:
- How important is it to crack open their ugly-ass desktop to install blue LEDs?
- So let me get this straight genius, you want to install a water-cooled system to keep your piece o’ crap (PC) working properly?
- I don’t have time for “reverse engineering” a pick-up truck computer. I have creative work to do. Get a life.
I could on all day about this subject, but I won’t. I will say that I like Macs, iPods, iPads and Pixar movies. I like the man who had the vision and cojones to get them created. I read some books and articles and he just plain go it right. Maybe I’ll meet you
To the family of Steve Jobs, I am very sorry for your loss. Afterall, he was a husband and a father. God Bless.
Apple posted the following regarding the news:
“Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.”
Statement by Apple’s Board of Directors
“We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.”
“Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.”
“His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.”
