Government Shutdown: The Military

President Obama is keeping our military going through a government shutdown, but not DOD civilians.

President Obama, seeing the government shutdown handwriting on the wall, prepared a video statement to the military that was released early Tuesday morning, according to Time. Active duty military will keep working – and getting paid. The President signed a last-minute Congressional bill to fund the military.

However, DOD civilian employees will be looking at furloughs, even though they had furloughs this summer with budget sequestration. Some civilian DOD personnel deemed “essential” will even be required to work without pay!

The President did tip off the military and general public that with the withdrawals from Iraq and Afghanistan, the military will be looking at permanent cuts, to be “leaner.”
